Who am I?

Yes, the dreaded question. I don't have much of an answer.

A while back there was this one woman who said I reminded her of the Rain Man. Actually, I was a bit flattered by that, but I blend in better socially than the Rain Man does. I was once said to have ADD, then I was said to have Asperger's Syndrome (which has some relation to high-functioning autism), but for the past two years I've stopped regarding myself as being any different from anyone else. Right now, a few people think I'm a little nutty, sure, but not neurologicaly different, unless you count the opinions of my summer employer.

What do I do for a living? Well, I'm a student, but nowadays it's not okay anymore for a student not to be working during the academic year (I blame consumerism and the high costs of tuition), so I'm 'unemployed.' Eh... but unless it's a low-stress job being offered to me, I think I'll stay with being unemployed until the school year ends. I just can't get paid enough for the emotional duress, you know? I mean, how many times should one be put to tears in the course of a few weeks? (I hope the answer is less than three.)

Why am I an English major, of all things? Well I'd do a Computer Science B.Sc. but that would take five years! Meanwhile, I can escape with an English-majored B.A. in three (though I'll take four years), then do programming someplace else (like NSCC) for much less money. Yeah, if it were all the same I'd do a double-major B.Sc. in Astronomy and Computer Science with a minor in English; but unfortunately it's not all the same. I think it should be, though. Instead of pursuing what I'm interested in, I'm pursuing what I can afford. The idea: Get a degree and get the hell out.

What do I do for fun? I write. I like writing, but not as much as I like astronomy and computer programming. Unfortunately, I lack training and experience in these areas, so for now I'll have to settle for being a novelist. My ultimate dream is to become a geek of all trades.

Last season's rants were better.
