Hi, my name is Will Matheson, and I'm running for SMUSA Vice-President of External Affairs. Academically, I'm working towards receiving my Honours in English this May. After I originally graduated in 2004 I went on a Canada World Youth / NetCorps IT exchange between Alberta and Poland, and in 2005 I took sound and video courses at NSCAD and went on a Canada Corps e-governance internship to Ukraine for six months, where I worked in a small university library when I wasn't doing community work or travelling. In 2006 I worked as a customer service representative for a very large cellular phone outfit in the USA. ("Thank you for calling Sprint, together with Nextel - my name is Will, how may I assist you today?" - in fact, that's exactly the question I want to ask you now!) This semester I'm also playing Malvolio in our Drama Society's production of Twelfth Night.
And between things, I'm running for office! I want to help lower tuition, increase post-secondary funding, help more students in all disciplines find jobs, and do whatever else I can to improve the school that's given so much to me. It's going to be a tough battle; I'm up against seven (!!) excellent opponents. Whatever the outcome, I am certain this will be a profound learning experience for me, and I look forward to sharing it with you!
