PS15j - The Way There
(Photos by William Matheson (larger) and Aimee Smith (smaller))

I first heard about the bus trip from a poster by SMUSA's Marketing Department, with whom I had a job interview after Hurricane Juan. I was glad that they decided to bring me in, after Wendy's and McDonalds and such didn't bother with me again this summer. I was a little surprised, though, considering that I had a job interview there three years ago. Stupidly, I wore jeans and a collared shirt, and I was up against a professional-looking woman in black business attire who probably even had desktop publishing experience, so I wasn't even called back, as I expected. I didn't know why I got called up for Marketing again, as I'm just a hack, and I feel like I'd be much more qualified to be an Info Desk employee. Also, most of the Info Desk people already know who I am and how well I'd be suited to such a job. That's likely the problem. Anyway, I didn't get the Marketing job for obvious reasons. =) However, I have pricless memories from the Bishop's trip!

Just prior to departure. From left to right: Katt, Lyndsay Belair, Aimee Smith. Lyndsay needed scissors, but I didn't have time to go to the Library to fetch some (and then, of course, return them), and the Info Desk had none. (Gee, maybe they should hire me... j/k) See the high-res version of this picture.

Craig and his sister Alanna. This trip just wouldn't have been a trip at all without Craig and his family.

Aimee's friend Andrew with his iPod earphones. I think the white earphones that ship with it are cool, but they really label you as someone with an easy-to-steal $500 device in your pocket, don't they? I'd use a different pair just for personal security!

From left to right: Craig, Lyndsay, Alanna.

Tyler MacLeod, SMUSA President. Please note that we did not have alcohol on the bus; I'm sure he was drinking fruit juice.

Of course the fact that we were all picked up outside a campus bar is another issue entirely.

Centre: Matt Cameron, former SMUSA exec.

From left to right: Aimee Smith (unwitting contributor!), Chris Richards (SMUSA VP External). Chris was totally the trip MVP. He got us (fruit) drinks from the cooler, changed the volume when the iPod switched songs, and even gave me valuable alcohol purchasing advice.

Tyler and Matt discuss the forthcoming fun.

From left to right: Matt, Katt. Hey, that rhymes.

Somewhere in the vast darkness of New Brunswick, we broke into song, then we fell asleep. See the high-res version of this picture.

Lyndsay asleep.

Tyler (MacLeod) getting his navel hair burned off. I'm not sure this was consensual.

This is a rest stop on Autoroute 20, one of many operated by the Québec government. These things are slick. First of all, they're completely unmanned, yet they're still lit up and available 24/7/365. All of the restroom components are sensor-operated, another nice touch. A giant, deliciously legible and wonderfully accurate road map of the region was mounted on the corridor wall, such that us independent males wouldn't ever have to wait for another car to enter the rest stop so that we could - I don't even want to say it. Best of all, there was no advertising (except on the vending machines), just some tasteful modern-road-travel-art murals and a little reminder that Québec was once a glorious deficit spender to rival even the king of all deficit spenders, Nouvelle-Écosse. See the high-res version of this picture.

One of our friendly bus drivers.

During a quick stop for air along 143 (senic, although we ought to have taken Autoroute 55 instead), just before driving through Sherbrooke. This is Craig's cousin Kristen. The shirt belongs to Craig (we hope!).
