Hi, I'm William Matheson, the lone candidate for SRC First Year Representative, or a position more commonly known as Frosh Rep. What with myself and the other three candidates having no apparent competition, you may feel that it is unnecessary to vote in these elections. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, since it's a simple yes/no vote, these elections offer a great opportunity for everyone to express their campus spirit in a friendly way. Showing your support for us will make you feel like you're a part of the system, and you are. If all goes well, there's a possibility I could be Frosh Rep within a week or two. What can you expect from me? Well, I think you can expect someone who keeps up with the issues (especially because I hate to be left out of anything), someone who can find solutions, someone who can entertain you, someone diligent and dedicated to getting things done right, and someone who will be moving chairs and tables into place before events while the older SRC members laugh. I think being a rep at the University level may be an important step in my life. With any luck, you'll be hearing from me again. I'm hoping to compose another screenplay sometime with a story that unfolds on campus, what it will need is someone to film it. And of course you can keep up with the campaign online and read my stories at (shameless plug imminent) . But the point I'm attempting to make here is that I thank each and every one of you for your support. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the kind folks who helped me take some of the photographs that you'll be seeing on some of my posters. My long-term political aspirations do include an agenda. My largest ambition is to bring the radio station back to SMU. Upon my arrival here, I was saddened to learn that it had been shut down and the equippment sold. I'd love to see it come back sometime in the next couple of years, hopefully with brodcast capablity and phone-in shows. Naturally, I have plenty of programming ideas. However, I know nothing about the fiscal situation yet, so my ambition probably seems ludicrous to people who have been around here for a couple of years. I enjoy reading and creative writing in my spare time, but I get the feeling that I won't be having quite as much spare time anymore. Whatever happens in the next couple of weeks, I think it will all work out for the better. Again, thanks for your support and I hope to get to know all of you better over the next three years.
