PS7 - Family
There are 100 photos in this photo set (23 in this subset), and about eighty of these were taken with the digital camera. I actually took hundreds more - but most of them stank. After taking the dumb and duplicate photos out of the set, I went through yet again and got rid of photos of the same people or things, photos that looked crappy, photos that weren't really very flattering, photos that I took just because I had a digital camera. So what you're seeing here is only a small portion of all the family photos I took - putting every one up would annoy you, it would annoy the people in them who were probably already annoyed simply by my constantly taking pictures, it would annoy myself for being such an online sloth, and it would annoy Crosswinds for my taking unfair advantage of their generous offer of unlimited webspace.
So just enjoy the relevant pictures, here. Below.
Let's first introduce Kari, Aunt Donna's daughter and my first cousin.
This is a shot I got of Kari doing what she usually does at Aunt Shirley's
- raiding the kitchen. Of course, that's what I usually do, so I'm
not belittling her in the least. Plus, I think this was breakfast. =) I
took this picture and many of the following ones the morning after I finished
work.
This is my first cousin once removed, Ross Collishaw, the young one
of his family. Everyone but me was getting ready to go to church. The reason
I wasn't going wasn't due to my religious inclinement - no, nothing could
be further from the truth. I had to go pick up my paycheck.
Some of the Steeves (my Grand Aunt Winnies' family) came down to grandma's.
That's Alan on the right. Oh, and I suppose I should identify two of my
aunts in this photo - Aunt Shirley on the right, and Aunt Donna by the
microwave - in case you aren't familiar with them already.
To the left is my grandmother's sister, my Grand Aunt Winnie. In the
middle is Ross' wife, Laurie. On the right is Glendon's wife Perses.
And here's Glendon, and Ross again. That's an authentic and very old
pump organ Glendon's sitting in front of. It gives 'sweating to the oldies'
a whole new meaning.
My father sometimes keeps sheep in the area next to my grandmother's
house. Baaa. From left to right: Black Sheep (with only a little
wool, not three bags full), Lambchops, my sweater, Lambie Pie (literally).
The following pictures were all taken at Grand Aunt Pearl's and Grand
Uncle Neil's. One of the nice things about using a digital camera is having
the option to see what your picture is going to look like if you decide
not to use the flash. To the right is my second cousin Nigel. There's better
pictures of him in here someplace. Anyway, he's going off to the Forces
very shortly.
It's not usually very hard to come up with something funny when everyone's
gathered at Aunt Pearl's. From left to right: Lindsay, Jennifer,
Ruthie, Maria, Heber, Trevor. Trevor currently works at the Wendy's in
Montague - if you run into him, say hi to him for me.
Here, Kari was embarrassed after I took this picture, though I doubt
the picture captures anything embarrassing. It's too bad I didn't get a
better shot of José. I also missed Muriel. That's Christina to the
left of Kari.
At the farm, Grand Uncle Neil has a horse named Patches. That's me
on the horse.
And here's the master photographer himself, my Uncle Shane. His pictures
'turned out' better than mine. Of course, my pictures 'turn out' in less
than a second.
As you've seen, they managed to kick us younger folks outside eventually.
=) From left to right: Malcolm, Grand Aunt Winnie, Alan, Grand Uncle
Neil, Grandma, Sheryll (Malcolm's wife), and finally a woman whom I had
some very interesting conversations with, but as to name and relation,
I am without a mind to.
These next few pictures were taken when Amber and the others took closer
notice of the camera and wanted me to take some pictures of them. Amber
and Neil came down from out west with their parents Flora and Bill, but
I never thought to get a picture of Neil because he was busy in the front
yard hitting golf balls. From left to right: Kari, Amber, Trevor,
Christina, Elizabeth.
This strange pot in the middle of the back yard has been there for
a long time. It is popular for photos.
Amber is seen here with Ross, Mary's son. As Mary is the youngest of
Neil and Pearl's children, and thus "Ross" being her previous name, I sometimes
refer to Ross as "Ross Ross." I dare say that this picture is one of my
few good ones.
Here is Charlotte. She has taken the First Runner-Up award at the 2001
Dundas Plowing Match's "Queen of the Furrows." I was predicting that she
could get it, but on the other hand, neither of my two picks for the winner
made it. The reason that this picture is so fuzzy is that it was crammed
into the last bit of space left on the diskette. When I take a picture,
the space used to store the image is usually determined by the camera's
judgment of how much compression can be used before loss becomes apparent.
In this case, I just didn't have enough disk space to get a good picture.
So folks, keep this kind of thing in mind when using a digital camera.
3 pictures recovered in December '03:
Uncle Shane brought Carolyn and Tyler down with him. This is one of
Carolyns "going in circles" moments.
William, Ila, Carolyn (Uncle Shane's neice).
We're almost done here... the following slide pictures were taken by
Uncle Shane. From left to right: Charlotte, Jennifer, Alton Ross
(first cousin twice removed), Cheryl, Malcolm, Maria, Ruthie, William,
Nigel.
Ila again. Awww.
And here's Aunt Shirley and me.
Earlier in the summer, Jimmy Heller and his mother BJ came up from
New York. Crap, I like it if I'd smile more. Jimmy is nice to have around
because it means that, for a time, I won't be the oldest one to be concerned
with going outside to play. =)
From left to right: José, Lassie, Lindsay, William - taking
a break in the shade.
